🌍 Sustainability & SDGs.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals brought into the everyday curriculum. The SDG Impact Team owns the S.A.V.E. programme, Charity Week, and the school’s commitments to a more sustainable campus.

Intent

Why we teach this

  • Every child finishes primary with a working knowledge of the 17 SDGs and a sense of agency.
  • Sustainability is taught through doing — projects, audits, fundraisers, garden-to-table.
  • Local action is the starting point; global awareness grows from there.

Implementation

How it lands in classrooms

  • S.A.V.E. (the Cosmos Whole School Programme for sustainability) sequences SDG-aligned units across the year.
  • Each year group adopts an SDG focus per term — children plan, act, reflect.
  • Charity Week is the school-wide annual moment when every class fundraises or contributes for a chosen cause.
  • Sustainability literacy connects with Science, Languages and the Arts.

Impact

What learners can do

  • By Grade 2, children can name several SDGs and describe one action their class has taken.
  • By Grade 5, children plan and lead a sustainability project, including measuring impact.
